Equine Botulism Type B is a progressive neuromuscular disease that quickly leads to weakness and flaccid paralysis. This disease can be severe and typically leads to death via respiratory failure if not treated soon after the onset of clinical signs. Botulism Type B is caused by the neurotoxin Clostridium botulinum – a spore-forming bacterium that dwells naturally throughout the environment and is commonly found in soils across the country. Come learn about your horse’s risk, and prevention of this deadly disease with Neogen’s professional services veterinarian, Dr. Joe Lyman.
